The science is clear: to limit climate change, we need to end our reliance on fossil fuels and invest in alternative sources of energy. Renewable energy sources – provided by the sun, wind, water, waste, and heat from the Earth – emit little to no greenhouse gases or pollutants into the air. The International Day of Clean Energy on 26 January was declared by the General Assembly as a call to raise awareness for a just and inclusive transition to clean energy for the benefit of people and the planet.
TECHNOLOGY : Did you know?
- Recycling is a key component of a circular economy which encourages the use of renewable energy sources, promoting cleaner energy practices.
- By recycling organic waste methane emissions can be reduced, contributing to mitigate climate change and promoting cleaner energy practices.
- Recycling materials like paper, glass, plastic, and metals requires less energy than producing them from raw materials. By reducing the energy needed for manufacturing, recycling indirectly contributes to cleaner energy usage.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a holiday in America to celebrate his life and legacy, observed on the third Monday of January each year, near his birthday on January 15th.
Martin Luther King Jr. (1929–1968) was a civil rights leader who led nonviolent protests to help achieve equal rights for African Americans. He was awarded with the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964.

Para despedir el primer trimestre, el equipo de profesores del programa bilingüe organizó una gymkhana navideña para el alumnado de 1º y 2º ESO en colaboración con el departamento de inglés y el programa de coeducación.
Ha sido una bonita y divertida experiencia que, sin duda, repetiremos.

Thanksgiving Day is an annual national holiday in the United States and Canada celebrating the harvest and other blessings of the past year. In both Canada and America, family and friends gather for a meal and other celebrations on Thanksgiving.
In the US Thanksgiving is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November. Traditional meal in America often includes turkey, cranberries, and pumpkin pie. Parades and football games also have long associations with Thanksgiving.
It is very important to be thankful for all the positive things that we have. Sometimes we get carried away by the negative things around us, but we must break that habit and be grateful every day.

El pasado miércoles 8 de noviembre tuvo lugar en nuestro centro la primera reunión informativa sobre el campamento de inmersión lingüística que estamos preparando con “Narixa Camps” para la semana del 1 al 5 de abril de 2024. Si todavía no te has apuntado, puedes hacerlo hasta el 30 de noviembre.
Estas son algunas fotos de la presentación que nos hizo el director gerente de Narixa Camps. Aparte de mostrarnos el espectacular paraje natural y las instalaciones donde tendrá lugar el campamento, nos explicó el horario y las actividades que se llevarán a cabo durante esos días, siempre acompañados de monitores cualificados que harán que aprendamos y practiquemos inglés las 24 horas del día.

BILINGÜISMO LOS PEDROCHES 4º ESO
EDUCACIÓN FÍSICA DANZA Y MOVIMIENTO

Durante este mes Shana Dooley ha venido algunas horas a nuestro centro para trabajar en las clases bilingües de la ESO. ¡Por fin nos ha tocado a 4º! Hemos realizado con Shana varias actividades sobre la historia de la Danza y los tipos de Danzas y Bailes más importantes que podemos encontrar por el mundo. Shana nos ha hablado de los beneficios que tiene bailar: beneficios físicos, sociales, de relación y mentales.
Además hemos estado descubriendo el origen de algunas danzas y cómo se han ido desarrollando a lo largo de la Historia.
También hemos practicado un pequeño paso de baile que sin duda utilizaremos en nuestros proyectos de coreografía en la asignatura de Educación Física.
3º ESO GEOGRAFÍA E HISTORIA BILINGÜE
CON SHANA DOOLEY

Esta semana hemos contado con Shana Dooley en las clases de Geografía e Historia bilingüe. Hemos trabajado el tema de los parques nacionales, para conocer qué son y en qué se diferencian de otras áreas protegidas, comparando algunos datos interesantes sobre dichos espacios.
Los alumnos hemos participado aportando información y curiosidades sobre los impactos medioambientales y la necesidad de proteger los espacios naturales del planeta.
En una segunda parte, Shana se ha centrado en los parques nacionales que hay en EEUU y de la biodiversidad que encierran. Las fotos… ¡espectaculares! A continuación hemos expuesto trabajos sobre los parques nacionales españoles, que son también espacios únicos y maravillosos, con datos interesantes sobre los mismos.
Finalmente, Shana nos ha propuesto una dinámica por grupos en la que teníamos que ponernos de acuerdo sobre cuáles son las mejores medidas para proteger el medioambiente.
Gracias Shana por una clase tan especial! Esperamos que vuelvas muy pronto.
INVENTOS Y CREATIVIDAD 2º ESO TECNOLOGÍA BILINGÜE

Esta semana, en clase de tecnología bilingüe, hemos tenido la suerte de contar con Shana Dooley en clase en 2º de ESO: hemos hablado sobre creatividad e inventos. Nos hemos centrado especialmente en la utilidad de los inventos a lo largo de la historia.
Previamente habíamos recabado información sobre máquinas y mecanismos (tren, rueda, biela-manivela, polea, engranajes), traduciendo al inglés está terminología.
Si miras el tablón de International Spot verás que hemos dibujado los mecanismos estudiados. ¡No han quedado mal!
Por último, hemos grabado videos explicativos de los distintos inventos que se pueden ver en las calles de Pozoblanco: en el Pozo Viejo, en la Máquina del Tren, en el Reloj de Sol… ¡Cuantos inventos nos han hecho y nos hacen la vida más fácil!

Clases con Shana Dooley 1º ESO

Hoy, en clase de biología bilingüe, hemos tenido la suerte de contar con Shana Dooley en clase en 1º de ESO: hemos hablado del día de la Tierra y de que solo tenemos un planeta y tenemos que cuidarlo. Nos ha llamado mucho la atención un vídeo sobre un hombre que se viste llevando encima toda la basura que genera. También hemos hecho una dinámica en la que Shana nos planteaba una situación y posibles opciones, teníamos que elegir, unas eran más sostenibles que otras, y así nos íbamos situando en distintas zonas de la clase… En definitiva se trata de lo que nosotros estamos dispuestos a aportar.
Por ejemplo, mañana tendremos un gesto especial con nuestro entorno: vamos a salir a algunos caminos a limpiar toda la basura que la gente (¿nosotros?) tira sin pensar en nada. ¡Ya os contaremos!
CHARLA DE EUROPE DIRECT DE ANDALUCÍA RURAL

El alumnado de 1.º Bachillerato ha asistido a una charla de Europe Direct de Andalucía Rural. Se trata de programas de movilidad de la Unión Europea y ha servido para recordarles que, sin idiomas, la mayoría de las oportunidades se pierden.

Education is a human right, a public good and a public responsibility.
The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 24 January as International Day of Education, in celebration of the role of education for peace and development.
Without inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong opportunities for all, countries will not succeed in achieving gender equality and breaking the cycle of poverty that is leaving millions of children, youth and adults behind.
Today, 244 million children and youth are out of school, and 771 million adults are illiterate. 617 million children and adolescents cannot read and do basic math; less than 40% of girls in sub-Saharan Africa complete lower secondary school and some four million children and youth refugees are out of school. Their right to education is being violated and it is unacceptable. It’s time to transform education.
2023 theme: “to invest in people, prioritize education”.
26 ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION DAY
This day dates back to June 1972, the United Nations held a conference in Stockholm, Sweden, to preserve and improve the environment today. Following that, many countries gathered in the International Workshop on Environment, held in Belgrade. The result was the “Belgrade Charter” which includes essential demands of environmental education.
Why International Environmental Day is important
- We learn more about our home
With this holiday, the environment is promoted and people feel motivated to learn more and do something to help. It’s so humbling to realize that the earth is a beautiful place and one that should be preserved. - We can be part of the action-taking
Once we are more aware, we can take steps to act according to the benefits of the environment. It’s always good to convince others, but it is more meaningful when we walk the talk. - We help our home help us
As there is interdependence between man and the environment, it does us more good to connect and come up with solutions to the issues our environment faces. When given more thought, it’s just like making sure our home is a liveable and safe space to reside in.
30 PEACE AND NON-VIOLENCE DAY
Llorenç Vidal Vidal, a Spanish poet, educator, and pacifist, felt that schools should be the place where the leaders and citizens of tomorrow are taught about the importance of universal peace and conflict resolution through non-violent means. With this aim in mind, he founded ‘Dia Escolar de la No-violència i la Pau’ or the School Day of Non-violence and Peace on January 30, the death anniversary of the world peace leader, Mahatma Gandhi.

LA INTERNACIONALIZACIÓN EN LOS CENTROS EDUCATIVOS ANDALUCES

Dos profesores del equipo bilingüe del IES Los Pedroches se desplazan a Jaén el martes 17 de enero para participar en esta jornada de formación. En ella se tratarán los distintos tipos de proyectos Erasmus en los que nuestro instituto puede participar, así como los requisitos necesarios y las estrategias más interesantes para conseguir financiación para los mismos.

¡Tenemos un nuevo espacio en nuestro instituto para la internacionalización! Podrás encontrarlo frente a la biblioteca, en la primera planta, y allí verás la planificación mensual para el plan de bilingüismo, así como muchos proyectos y trabajos realizados en relación con los días que hemos elegido celebrar. En concreto, para este mes de enero nos hemos centrado en la educación (24, International Day of Education), concretamente en educación medioambiental (26, International Day of Environmental Education), para acabar el enero celebrando el día de la Paz (30, Day of Peace and Non-Violence).
